By utilizing commercial ceiling fans in the workplace you can not only save money on energy costs, but make the workplace a healthier, more comfortable place to work. Good ventilation can help prevent bacteria growth which will help keep illness down in the workplace, especially in the hot summer months. The constant airflow will also dry up water condensation during the wet seasons, which will help prevent accidents.
During the hot summer months, the commercial ceiling fans can lift the hot air up and cool off the work area. The air conditioning thermostat can be turned down several degrees without any change in the comfort of the workplace which will save on utility bills. With the constant movement of warm air being pulled upward, the work area will be cooler and more comfortable.
If using a reversible commercial ceiling fan, the warm air will be pushed down to the work area which will again save on utility costs. As warm air rises in the workplace, the colder air near the thermostat keeps the furnace running. By running commercial ceiling fans which move a large amount of air, the warm air remains in the lower work place area and keeps the thermostat from coming on. This means that the setting on the thermostat can be lowered a few degrees which will save you money.
Today commercial ceiling fans can be purchased in a variety of colors and styles. Sizes run from 32 inches to 60 inches so that you can have a choice in what size will work best for the work area. Prices on commercial ceiling fans run between $79 and $600 which works with the budget for remodeling and utility cost. The fans can be used with either a chain pull to switch the fan on and off or with a wall switch. There are advantages to both types of control switch:
- Chain pull control switches don’t require any additional wiring and are ready from the time the ceiling fan is installed. However, they have a tendency to break.
- Wall switches do require additional wiring and materials, but will last much longer without any replacements.
There are two types of commercial ceiling fans, the typical ceiling fan which uses 300 kilowatts a year. Then there is the Energy Star qualified fans which use only 120 kilowatts a year. Efficiency in commercial ceiling fans is determined by the cubic feet per minute of airflow per watt of consumed power. Some of the benefits of using commercial ceiling fans are:
- Reduction in energy costs
- Reduction of condensation
- Low operational costs
- Increased ventilation
- Easy to install
- Can be used for both heating and cooling
- Can be turned off easily when the room is not in use
The benefits of commercial ceiling fans far outweigh the cost of the fan and the installation. Compared to other upgrades that can be made to the work area, the fans offer a better ratio of cost vs. benefit than most any other upgrade you can make.
